5i Research Answer:

ATD has other news today, with a possible quite large bid for Seven-11 stores. It is an aggressive plan, and nothing is decided yet. Japan recently changed takeover rules so it is at least possible. ATD is actually smaller, and 7-11 shareholders may want mostly cash rather than ATD shares, so the structuring of any deal will dictate any success. But ATD has confirmed its 'soft bid' and if successful would create the world's largest convenience store operator. Expect a lot of volatilty in the stock with this news. Shrinkage is always an issue for any retailer. ATD has not made a lot of comments on it, but regardless it has not impacted its overall long-term growth rate. Its average price is quite low, so it would take a significant increase in theft to change margins. Other retailers have certainly noted more theft, and have increased security measures. Some have eliminated self-check out.
