Q: I'm confused about the different Brookfield group of companies (I may not have them all listed), namely, which one should be held under which circumstance (income, growth, registered, unregistered etc) and is it beneficial to hold multiple, and if so which and why. Thanks!

5i Research Answer:

Here are all the Brookfield entities along with dividend yields:

BN (Brookfield Corporation)

Yield: 0.5%
BAM (Brookfield Asset Management)
Yield: 2.6%
BIP.UN (Brookfield Infrastructure Partners)
Yield: 5.0%
BEP.UN (Brookfield Renewable Partners)
4.25%
BBU.UN (Brookfield Business Partners)
1.2%
BNRE (Brookfield Reinsurance Ltd.)
0.63%
We think BN and BBU.UN and BNRE are optimized for growth and capital appreciation, while BAM, and BIP.UN, and BEP.UN are vehicles that are optimized for dividend growth. Overall, names with higher yields are preferred to be held in registered accounts, generally, but it can depend on one's tax situation. Depending on investors preference, we think it makes sense to hold multiple entities. We like BAM and BN most among these names, with BAM for income and BN for growth.
