Q: Hi. I have some funds to invest. I already own IIP.UN in a diversified portfolio. Would adding RIT or BPYP-PR.A be a good diversification addition or would you recommend just staying with IIP.UN? Thank you.

We will almost always agree to diversification. It can be a volatile sector, and owning only one company can be risky. We would prefer to add a diversified ETF such as RIT over a single preferred share issue. RIT offers a 5.48% yield and solid diversification of REITs. It should likely do better as interest rates drop in Canada over time.
