There are two general sector classification systems, and we use both at times. The TSX considers ATD to be consumer discretionary but its consistent cash flow implies it is less volatile than other discretionary stocks. It is a bit of a hybrid but if one wants to default to the TSX classification that is fine. Other examples of staples: L, MRU, SAP, MFI
