PS only buy the best of the best…
Keep in mind we cannot personally direct answers so these are general comments only. Although both companies operate in the same field of e-commerce fundamentally, we don’t think there is too much overlap between the two.
SHOP pursues a capital-light business model that does not get involved too much on the logistics side of the business (anymore). Instead, SHOP operates largely as a software company that provides all the tools for businesses to build their own online presence and thereby charge subscription and payment fees.
On the other hand, AMZN is more capital-intensive, it charges fees and advertising from third-party sellers, as well as Prime subscription which is more similar to COST’s business model. On top of that, the AWS is a completely different business. We don’t think there would be too much overlap owning both, and winners just keep winning. We would prefer owning both rather than loading up on one.
