Q: hello 5i:
The latest news release states that Pembina will not be redeeming these preferreds in the next 5 year period. I don't quite understand the conversion privilege, though, so could you elaborate, in simple English and advise which course you'd take if you held the shares.
thanks
Paul L

5i Research Answer:
PPL offered holders of reset preferreds (with the rate changing every five years) the chance to convert to floating rate preferreds (where the dividend rate changes every quarter). Considering the expectations that interest rates are set to fall, very few preferred holders wanted to convert, and thus PPL did not meet the conversion threshold of 1M shares. Thus, nothing happens here and the preferreds continue to be reset preferreds. The new rate, which will be in effect until March, 2029, is 6.019% (based on a $25 par value).
