Q: You answered Cathy's question about Nutrien on January 12, and I have a similar question. I met someone last week who works for Nutrien, and states that the company is in trouble and starting to sell off some of its businesses in various communities. I am not sure if there is any validity to this statement and curious if your research shows otherwise.
5i Research Answer:
Companies need to disclose material information, and NTR has not indicated any sales recently. That does not mean it might not be looking for expressions of interest on some assets, though. The business is cyclical, and NTR has a lot of debt, and earnings are not expected to do much this year. But none of this is 'news', and we would not categorize the company as 'in trouble'. But, still, the stock is down 29% in a year, and fertilizer contract prices have been trending down.
