Q: Considering taking a position (up to 2%) in a dividend paying oil/gas company, and looking at FRU or WCP. Could I get your comments on the royalty structure vs a producer, as well as a comparison of the metrics such as payout percentage, debt, guidance, etc. Do you have a preference, and would you even consider adding an oil producer at this time. I have some ETFs with small positions in some oil companies, but no direct holdings of my own.
Thank-you

Q: I have not been in oil for years but am reviewing the matter for diversification. But here we are with 2 wars going on , OPEC+ cutting prices , Russia selling oil at discount , the world awash with oil and excess production, governments pushing green. Economists ( gotta love those guys ) were talking peak oil and $200.00 pbl. not that many years ago. So why should I want to buy a commodity with such lousy metrics ?

If I do take the plunge I’m looking at these 3 large caps. IMO has long been a well run company and I like to align myself with the American masters who keep on doing buybacks. CNQ is also shareholder friendly and well run. SU has a 100 years of reserves, an attractive retail operation but continual operational issues.

What is your view on oil long term and your favourite of these three ? Thanks. Derek

Q: Hello,

I'm hoping you might be able to steer me towards several suitable, longer term, investments.

If you were assembling a portfolio of equity investments today, from which you REQUIRED an overall average yield of at least 4%, with a further need for that yield to either keep pace with or to outpace the rate of inflation in coming years; which 5 Canadian and which 5 USA equities would you select to include within your portfolio?

1) Independent of any consideration of a desire for diversity of sector?

2) If diversity were to be considered to be of importance?

Please deduct as many question credits as you feel may be appropriate.

Thank you!
