In Canadian equity, AltaGas (ALA) is in talks to merge with WGL Holdings (WGL), the parent of natural-gas utility Washington Gas, in a deal worth US$5-6B. Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX) surged as it sold assets for about $2B as it looks to pay down its more than $30B debt.
